Why Drink Fresh Juice?

Juicing is a fun way to get 1 of your 5 portions of fruit and vegetables a day. It’s quick easy and of course tasty.  Home made juices offer several benefits over bottled or carton juice drinks. Firstly it’s fresh and raw! Un-pasteurized fruit and vegetable juices are packed with highly absorbable and beneficial nutrients. These nutrients like vitamins, minerals, enzymes, carbohydrates, chlorophyll and countless other phyto-nutrients (those derived from plants) have been shown to boost health when taken in this liquid form.  Combining the fruits and vegetables can also work together to enhance immunity, protecting us from not just colds and coughs but cancer and cardiovascular diseases.  Juices really are powerhouses of antioxidants with powerful cleansing properties and an abundant source of nutrients.

A really good way to increase health and vitality is to drink 1 full glass of fresh home made unadulterated juice as soon as it’s made.  If you’re pushed for time then why not make a large amount of juice and store it in air tight bottles with all the air and froth removed.  The addition of 1 teaspoon of vitamin C powder or a squeeze from a fresh lemon can also help to preserve the juice for longer.  Juice made with the Easy Health Wildcat twin gear juicer can keep fresh longer than juice made with some high speed centrifugal type juicers.  This is because the stainless steel twin gears gently and firmly crush the fruit and vegetable fibres releasing valuable nutrients without rapidly or greatly raising the temperature.  Many of the enzymes in the juice are still active due to a reduced amount of oxidation when compared to some centrifugal high speed juicers.  This process of extraction is often referred to as cold pressed juicing or masticating since it simulates the action of grinding with our teeth when we chew.

For best results when juicing always choose the freshest produce in season and organic if possible.  Organic produce generally have less agro-chemicals used to produce them, which means more goodness for you.  When juicing apples the crisp varieties like Granny Smith, Braeburn, Egremont Russet, Pink Lady or Discovery are best and give the highest juice yields.  Apples are great for detoxifying but also help with lowering cholesterol, aiding digestion and bettering the skin.  Juicing the apple seeds can also add valuable additional vitamins and nutrients missing from today’s modern diets, like vitamin B17 a potent cancer fighting vitamin, which when combined with pineapples, appears to have beneficial results on health for some cancer patients.  Vegetables are great for juicing because they are so high in minerals, most can be combined with apple to make a delicious cocktail, remember to only use herbs sparingly as they can be very powerful.

Juicing can become a lifestyle so make the most of it and enjoy your juices and enjoy your road to a new healthy lifestyle.
